care instructions
Sterling silver is an alloyed metal - a mix of silver and copper and therefore prone to tarnishing quickly. This is a natural process and is a result of a chemical reaction with oxygen or sulfur particles in the air. With proper care and knowledge of your jewelry, your piece can last a lifetime and beyond.
daily wear instructions
Wear your jewelry often - believe it or not, your skin’s natural oils will help keep your silver jewelry shiny.
Remove when doing chores/exercising - Substances like household cleaners, chlorinated water, and perspiration will accelerate tarnish.
Sunlight - Do not leave your jewelry exposed to the elements. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will tarnish your jewelry quickly.
places and situations to avoid
Shower: Rings, earrings, and necklaces are especially susceptible to shampoo, conditioner, and body wash; they can leave a dull film on the surface of your jewelry. Try to avoid showering with your silver on, once in a while doesn’t hurt, but make sure your jewelry is dried completely if a mistake is made.
Exercising: Strenuous physical activity makes you sweat. Sweat mixed with perfumes and lotions can tarnish your jewelry.
Swimming Pools/ Hot Tubs: This is a definite NO. Remove jewelry before hopping into a pool or hot tub. Chlorine is a harsh chemical that will advance the tarnishing process rapidly. Avoid wearing your piece in both these environments. If it does come in contact with chlorine, rinse the piece well under tap water and pat dry completely.
Hot Springs/ Hot Places: Sulfur in a natural hot spring will completely tarnish your silver. Avoid wearing your piece in these types of environments. Avoid wearing jewelry when lying out at the beach or poolside on a bright sunny day.
Lotions and Chemically infused Perfumes: Chemicals in lotions and perfumes can also tarnish your piece. Apply them first, let them soak in and dry, and then put on your jewelry.
Sleeping: Removing jewelry before bed is a good habit to form.
Pure water by itself does not damage sterling silver, but most of the water we are exposed to in our daily lives is not purified. Chemicals and contaminants in the water can result in tarnished and dull-looking silver. When in doubt, remove your jewelry, it's precious.
